    Hi George Ball,

We’ve just moved into a house in Connecticut which has, what has been described to me, as a Weeping Hemlock. I’ve never seen one before. This one is rather large, probably 20 feet across by 18 feet high with a trunk measuring 10 to 12 inches across then splitting into 3 limbs.

It sits right outside our kitchen window and because of its size virtually eliminates the vista to the back yard.

Could it be pruned or would this take away from the weeping look? Might there be a market for this type of tree? We’d hate to cut it down.

Any advice you could give would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Bob

  2. Dear Mr. Ball,
Thank you for the sanity you bring to this ever more “goofy” thing we call modern day life.

Your thoughtful words are most welcome.

  4. nice op-ed in the wsj Mr. Ball. im not sure i agree or disagree with your points but at least it made me think.

now that the central park zoo has caged three snow leopards, i wonder what is the right way to release the leopards and get them back to central asia. what would be the civilized method of doing this successfully?

either way, thanks for your op-ed. it was smart and interesting.

Mr. Ball, I think you’ve added something to the debate. The whole Left-Right thing is so confused. The idea of Progressive-Reactionaries is interesting. I’m waiting for someone to explain the aesthetics of politics. So many people seem to choose their side based on notions other than logical thought. The Left benefits from
“coolness” and fun and liberation while wanting to control just about everything. That’s a neat trick. The Right, the ones who really believe in progress, just can’t seem to find their rhythm.
Anyway, we need more original thought!

  6. George,

Park Seed has teamed up with Clydes Guide, but we have not found a partner as of yet (but ours is just out). Would be happy to send you a full copy to review….Jim & Kate Porter

RE: Gardening Resource Link featuring the Tippolly “Personalized” Veggie Garden Management Tool

Tippolly Farm is pleased to announce that the Tippolly Vegetable Planting / Sizing and Buying Guides were tested in 2009 by over 2,000 members of the National Home Garden Club. The results were a 91% approval rating for all gardeners and an 80% approval rating for gardening experts. The feedback was extremely positive with a savings in purchasing the correct amount of seeds/plants, and increased production by following the planting dates customized to the last average spring frost date for the garden in question.

Evaluation write-up from one of the Garden Club Testers: “I am a Master Gardener for 11 years and I wholly recommend this Tippolly Garden Planting Guide to everyone interested in gardening. It is easy for a novice to follow and I wish they had this Guide many years ago. There is so much information on the two sheets to make vegetable gardening really easy. A guide I would not be without.”
